Today, I am free of back pain. This has not always been true.
For almost thirty years, my lower back caused me trouble. Some days, the pain was fairly mild. During spasms — back attacks — I was basically unable to function for several days at a time. Worse yet, my doctors told me that there was no cure and that I’d have to learn to deal with it.
I stubbornly refused to let the pain keep me from activities that I enjoyed. I was getting good at “dealing” with the pain, except when the “back attacks” hit. That always stopped me cold.
One day a friend told me about Hanna Somatic Education®. Having tried just about everything else, I decided to try it. I worked with a practitioner for about three months. Once I learned how to address my particular issues, I was on my own and so happy to feel freedom in my own body. Now, more than a decade later, “back attacks” are no longer part of my life.
After my first private training session, I felt different, better. I sensed that there was something to this. I realized that for the first time, I was not being “worked on” by someone else. I was actively engaged in the process. In fact, it was ME who was helping ME feel better. I was the key to healing. I really liked that.
After seven years of enjoying my pain-free body, I changed careers and entered the three-year, comprehensive Hanna Somatic Education® training program (The Novato Institute for Somatic Research and Training). Now, I teach others how the brain-body connection works and how to tap into the truly amazing potential that exists within all of us.
I have also learned that the potential to improve is infinite and that like most things in life, it’s up to me. I don’t need a gym membership, nor any special equipment. The resistance of gravity against my body as I move is my primary tool.
While being pain free is wonderful, I also love the sense of inner strength and independence that I have developed. There is truly nothing that compares to the simple pleasure of walking with comfort. I invite you to start your own personal journey.
